Indirect assessments rely on reports from others rather than direct observation. Behavior rating scales, interviews, and questionnaires fall into this category. Functional analysis (A) and ABC recording (B) are direct assessments where the RBT observes and records data in real time. Frequency recording (D) is also direct. DRI strengthens a behavior that cannot occur at the same time as the problem behavior. If a child is sitting quietly with hands folded, hitting is impossible.
